What can you expect at The Open Camps?
We want to create a space where you not only get the basic information's around coffee. We want to challenge your curiosity in space where baristas, roasters and growers can meet, share and learn from each other and from the camp. We want to go in depth with the coffee world-map. How did it look traditionally, how has it changed. We want to give you a coffee tasting/cupping experience above the normal. How do you roast coffees, what are the new trends in this field, you will experience Kentaros world of knowledge.
How do the machine manufacturers think, work and build the machines, how do they test them, what about stability, heating and grinding. Nuova Simonelli will take us through Liquid percolation through model porous media. It’s a research NS has done in collaboration with University of Camerino and Academic Computers Centre in Gdansk simulating the flow of water through a panel of porous material such as coffee. In terms if grinder we will look at: Granulometry profile. This research has been done in collaboration with Mechanical Engineering University of Ancona. Nuova Simonelli has studied a method using a high resolution digital zoom camera and a specifical software to capture the granulometry profile of grinding and the shape of the particles of different kind of blades. The results show a very different grinding distribution and grinding profile between different kind of blades.
How do we work as professionals in our daily life as baristas, what about competition, how do we prepare ourself for a challenge like this. How do you learn to capture the details required for a competition. We will look at mentality training tools. How can we use our body and brain to become better. You will experience Fritz' training philosophy. We will talk about expressions, feelings, knowledge, equipment etc.
How can we create an experience above the average for the people who is coming to us for coffee. How can we create a memorable situation and make sure that people go away with a bit more knowledge than before, and make sure they come back.
On top of all this you will be creating a new network among fellow coffee lovers in the industry, baristas, roasters maybe growers (we are working on a camp in Colombia) and also the manufactures of the machines we are using. All this will happen in a very authentic atmosphere at Kentaros Roastery in Japan, and Nuova Simonellis factory in Italy. At both places we will build a workshop area where we can smell, test and feel the coffee industry around us. There will be 5 working stations ready for us, where we can work with the different topics that will be brought up.
It will be 3 intensive days where we will switch between classes, workshop and presentations, Welcome.
Philosophy
In general education and competition training; our philosophy begins with each single individual and personality. It is about understanding yourself and the coffee. Both are greater than most people think.
The constantly search to make a better cup, to believe in the ultimate experience, is our trademark.
This has been some of the great reasons behind Fritz Storms success as a trainer. To make baristas understand that it all have to come from them self, from their own thoughts and feelings. If people believe in this, there is no limit of education, training and greatness.
